Spontaneous Audience on Brick Ln.
Painting the Spontaneous Audience platform; ready for the Brick Lane edition!
Just a tiny test and taster of Saturday’s DIY negative scanning session. These are the raw versions, unedited or enhanced or even cleaned.
All the photos were taken with an ancient Agfa Synchro Box (courtesy of the loveliest Tinna) in Boscombe and in London on 120 medium format film.
There are hundreds left to scan and a lot more work and improvement to be done; I will post them here sometime in July so keep your eyes peeled!
Make Your Own Flatbed Scanner Negative Scanning Adaptor: Gourmet Edition©
For a successful negative scan, you need simultaneous backlight as the flatbed scanner reads the film. This recipe will teach you how to redirect light on a normal flatbed scanner and achieve an effect comparable with professional negative scanners, for a much lighter price of £3.
You will want to align the box parallel to the lamp, with the non-reflective side against one frame of your negative film.
Ingredients: A packet of crisps (we used McCoy’s Ridge Cut with Cheddar & Onion)/ A triangular sandwich box (try to choose the least messy sandwich; we opted for a simple cheddar one)/ A handful of staples/ A stapler/ A pair of scissors
OPEN the sandwich box and remove/eat contents
CLEAN the interior
REPEAT step one & two with packet of crisps
LINE one half of the interior of the sandwich box with the reflective side of the packet of crisps
STAPLE carefully around the edges and remove the surplus
FOLD the box back into shape and staple it together
